ROME (AP) — For nearly six decades, the Tirelli atelier in Rome has woven itself into the fabric of Italian and international film history, earning the nickname the “Oscar tailor’s shop” for its contribution to cinematic costume design. Established in November 1964 by the late Umberto Tirelli, the shop has been behind 17 Academy Awards for best costume design. “Of course, the Oscar is not won by the tailor’s shop, the Oscar is won by the costume designer. But the tailor’s shop has the merit and the honor of having participated to make it win.”The atelier’s origins stem from Tirelli’s passion for collecting antique clothing. LOS ANGELES – Apple Original Films is a new player on the Academy Award scene, but it's already left an indelible — and historic — mark. With acclaimed director Ridley Scott's "Napoleon" opening just ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, Apple is making another push for Academy Award glory. Heading into November, the Academy Awards race appeared to be dominated by Warner Bros. ' "Barbie" and Universal's "Oppenheimer." Warner Bros. and Legendary Studio's "Dune: Part Two" won't be part of this year's Oscar race after departing to March of next year. Now, in the last few weeks of the year, Academy Award hopefuls are arriving en masse.

PARIS, Nov 15 (Reuters) - The cast of Ridley Scott's biopic "Napoleon" flocked to Paris for the film's global premiere on Tuesday night, taking to the red carpet just days after strikes ended in Hollywood. Joaquin Phoenix plays the role of Napoleon, a historical figure both revered and criticised in France, who is portrayed in the film as a ruthless military tactician with a softer, vulnerable side, uncovered by his wife the empress Josephine de Beauharnais, played by Vanessa Kirby. "I feel very fortunate the strike ended in time," Rothman told Reuters. Kirby said she learned about the challenge of being "the feminine in that extremely masculine world," and appreciated Beauharnais for "remaining dignified," even through her public divorce. Apple TV+ is a small but influential player in the streaming wars. And Apple has signaled it wants to grow its streaming content slate at a time when other media companies are contracting. Apple is "always looking" for films that "highlight humanity," according to one of the agency documents. As a side hustle of a massive retail business, Apple TV+ can fly under the radar, insulated from economic pressures that have roiled the entertainment business. (Apple TV+ was the first streamer to win the best picture Oscar, in 2022, for "CODA," which it acquired at the Sundance Film Festival).

Tom Holland is Spider-Man in the Sony-Marvel film "Spider-Man: No Way Home." LAS VEGAS — CinemaCon kicked off Monday with a major announcement from Sony Pictures — its upcoming "Kraven the Hunter" would mark the first R-rated Marvel film produced by the studio. "F--- yes, it's rated R," said Kraven himself Aaron Taylor-Johnson in a pretaped teaser for the film before Sony showed the first trailer for the profane and bloody action flick. Sony showed 14 minutes of the film — due out June 2 — to CinemaCon audiences, who laughed and cheered for the uniquely animated feature. Sony also showcased a clip from Jennifer Lawrence's upcoming R-rated drama "No Hard Feelings" to raucous applause.
Cinema stocks jumped Thursday after a report said Apple plans to spend $1 billion a year on theatrical film releases. The investment is part of the tech company's efforts to raise its profile in Hollywood and lure subscribers to its streaming service, Apple TV+, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Typically, Apple has released films directly to its streaming platform or allowed limited runs in a small number of theaters for Academy Award eligibility. No plans have been finalized, but these releases could remain in cinemas for at least a month. Last year, Apple TV+ became the first streaming service to win the Academy Award for best picture, with "Coda."
March 3 (Reuters) - Actor Tom Sizemore, known as much for his struggles with drug addiction and run-ins with the law as for his tough-guy roles in such films as "Saving Private Ryan" and "Black Hawk Down," died on Friday at age 61, said his manager, Charles Lago. Sizemore's first major leading role came in the 1997 horror thriller "The Relic," again playing a police detective. On television, Sizemore won plaudits for his starring role as a police detective in the short-lived CBS television drama "Robbery Homicide Division." He was arrested again on suspicion of domestic abuse in 2016 and the following year pleaded no contest, the legal equivalent of guilty in California, and was sentenced to three year's probation. Sizemore chronicled his turbulent life in the 2013 memoir, "By Some Miracle I Made It Out of There."
